At Home in Homer.

We have arrived safe and sound in Alaska. We had a very interesting trip that was full of excitement. We had to take a little jog through the Las Vegas Airport to catch our connecting flight to Anchorage, but we and our luggage made it no problem. The trip from Anchorage to Homer was the best part of our day by far though. We arrived in Anchorage and were able to get our luggage and make it over to the South Terminal to catch an earlier flight into Homer than we had anticipated. As we were "checking in" and getting our hand written boarding passes, we had a chance to meet our pilot as he was just hanging out at the ticket window. We than followed him out to the single engine Cessna caravan that was set up to carry eleven people (Including the pilot). We only had one other passenger on the plane with us. As the pilot turned around in his seat to give us our preflight instructions, we just smiled because we knew things were going to be different.
Homer has been incredible. It is truly a beautiful place to see. It is surrounded by hills and mountains, and is perfectly snow covered right now. It is everything you think of when you think of Alaska. Unless of course you are one of those that thinks Alaska is just one big tundra. In that case it is a bit different. I have already seen more bald eagles around this town than I think I have ever seen in my life. Yesterday, we were fortunate enough to meet another native to the area. As we were taking a walk around town, we had two moose walk across the road in front of us. We walked within about twenty feet of one of them, but unfortunately it was getting a little to dark for a good photo. It was still pretty amazing, and is supposed to be a common sight here. So, I am sure we will get another shot.
